Aberdeen City Tourist Information
Welcome to Aberdeen City ...
Aberdeen City area contains Scotland's third largest city, but one bursting with history and attractions to compete with its larger rivals.
Historically divided into Old and New Aberdeen, the city is now joined, but still composed of areas with very different characters to explore.
With a population of around 200,000, the city has enjoyed an economic boom since the late 20th Century thanks to the oil industry, which has replaced traditional industries.
Set between the rivers Dee and Don, the city also has a long sandy beach with its own distinctive community. Amongst the sand dunes two miles north of the city is The Royal Aberdeen Golf Club, founded in 1780 and one of the oldest (and finest) in the world.
Aberdeen international airport is in Dyce, a few miles out of the city, with scheduled and charter flights to Britain and Europe as well as a large commercial heliport.
Aberdeen Harbour has ferry service to destinations such as the Orkney and Shetland Isles. You can get a sleeper train to London from the busy train station, and the city area is also well served by coach and bus services.
Villages within the Aberdeen City area include Peterculter and Cults, where you can visit the children's attraction Storybook Glen, and live happily ever after...
