Amlwch is a town on the northernmost coast of Anglesey with a fascinating history.
Mined for copper for millennia, Parys Mountain is a staggering stark quarry landscape of orange and red left behind by this industrial legacy. So rich in metals that vegetation cannot survive here, its otherworldly appearance means it is now used for movie and TV filming locations, and is a popular visitor destination.
Mining ceased in the 19th century but many of the original buildings remain at nearby Porth Amlwch, which has a museum of copper mining and shipbuilding at the Sail Loft Visitor Centre.
Enjoy the coastline, travel further west on the A5025 to Cemaes Bay.
