Loch Lomond is a Scottish icon and one of its most beautiful lakes, the largest freshwater expanse in Britain by surface area and with 37 islands within its shores.
Surrounded by hills and mountains between Argyll and Bute and West Dumbartonshire, there are fantastic walks around this tranquil area, such as along the West Highland Way to the east. But perhaps the best way to appreciate the stunning scenerey is by boat. Cruises operate from various towns and villages dotted around the lake edge, such as Luss, Tarbet and Balloch.
The loch forms part of the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, with a huge range of outdoor activities on offer. There are ranger-led wildlife events throughout the year helping visitors to appreciate the natural riches of the area.
Balloch in West Dumbartonshire is also home to Loch Lomond Shores, gateway to the national park, with a visitor centre, aquarium, shops, restaurant cruises, boat and cycle hire amongst other activities.
