Lochawe is a small village set in beautiful countryside on the lake of the same name.
This area of Scotland was a wild and lonely spot of mountains and lochs until the railway opened the area up to visitors in the Victorian era, and the handsome architecture of the area is typical of the period. Notable is the eccentric St Conan' Kirk, with its wonderful combination of various styles.
Lochawe is a good base from which to explore the picturesque valleys of Glen Orchy and mountainous heights of Beinn Cruachan, Beinn Laoigh and other nearby summits. The river Orchy has excellent salmon fishing and boats can be hired from around Loch Awe to catch trout.
Visitors can also cruise Loch Awe in season by vintage steamboat, departing from Lochawe pier, and take a trip to visit the nearby Kilchurn castle.
