Lochgilphead is named after its picturesque location, at the head of Loch Gilp, an inlet of the larger Loch Fyne.
A planned settlement dating from the 18th century, this is a traditional and characterful town, and at the heart of Argyll and Bute, it is the ideal base from which to explore this beautiful region.
The small but beautiful Crinan Canal links Loch Fyne at Ardrishaig just South of Lochgilphead to the Sound of Jura. Here you can walk the nine mile length through stunning Scottish scenery, or for the more adventurous choose a sailing holiday taking in the waterways, lochs and islands of the West coast.
Other attractions in the area include the 12th cenutury Duntrune Castle, still a private home, and the beautiful woodland walks in Kilmichael Forest.
