Impressive tower dedicated to Braveheart William Wallace.
This huge and imposing 19th monument is both a local and national landmark, standing tall and visible for miles. Inside this 67m high building are 246 steps taking you up to one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Scotland. Sir William Wallace used this hilltop to watch the English army before attacking and beating them at the battle of Stirling Bridge in 1297, although the ancient Wallace claymore sword displayed inside is actually thought to date from a few hundred years after this. The tower has an exhibition on Wallace and other Scottish icons, and also a cafe to provide visitors with refreshments after tackling all those stairs.
