Remains of the largest and grandest cathedral in Scotland.
Said to have been where the relics of St Andrew were brought in the 8th century, this has been an important place of Christian worship for many centuries. The earliest buildings date from the 12th century, including St Rules Church with its impressive square tower rising up around 33m. The majority of the fine stoneworks date from the 13th and 14th century, and include the soaring East Gable, Pends Gate, and a remarkably complete vaulted undercroft. There is a Historic Scotland cathedral museum on the site containing a wonderful collection of artefacts found at the site dating from the Pictish era onwards.
