Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway

Take a steam train trip.

The line runs from Lakeside station to Haverthwaite, so you can take the ferry from Ambleside or Bowness-on-Windermere to get here. The steam trains run over 3.5 miles of track , the line was closed by British Rail and was taken over by the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway in the 1960's. You can walk around the engine shed at Haverthwaite, where there is a collection of steam and diesel locomotives, plus, of course, carriages. Facilities, at Haverthwaite, include a restaurant, gift shop, and picnic areas.
