The centre is set in 50 acres of the Derbyshire Dales, an area that includes disused quarries, lime kilns,lead mine shafts. The Discovery Centre has a 'Story of Stone' exhibition. You can take three themed walks focusing on ecology, geology and history, or choose from nine, longer and more hilly, circular routes. If you prefer you can just wander around the site, but as it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest you can't go around taking samples !
The centre runs some very popular stone related courses, including dry stone walling and stone carving. Facilities include a shop and cafe.
Free admission to site, charge for the Discovery Centre.
