South Wales Miners Museum

Discover the life and hardships of the coal mining communities.

Set in the scenic Afan Forest Park, it is now hard to imagine the area as it was during the years of coal mining that once defined South Wales. The industry boomed particularly in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries before declining in the region. This museum takes visitors back in time to explain the history of coal mining, particularly focussing on the lives of the miners (some of them just small children) and their families, and the difficult existence they faced above and below ground.
