The county town of Bridgend is set on the River Ogmore, with an attractive 15th century humpbacked bridge crossing the water.
There are several historic sites in the town. In the centre is the ruined castle of Newcastle, originally a Norman fortress but rebuilt in the 12th century. Close by is Coity Castle, a particularly fine ruin, also dating from the same era, as does impressive Ewenny Priory. Bryngarw Country Park is a large and beautiful green space centred around a pretty old manor house.
Bridgend also has more modern attractions, with it's pedestrianised shopping streets offering high street names, cafes and pubs. Just out of town, Bridgend Designer Outlet is a popular retail destination with a range of stores, restaurants and entertainment.
