Merthyr Mawr is a pretty little village on the River Ogmore, close to a stunning coastline of dunes and sandy beach.
The village itself is just a few quaint cottages and houses, and a delightful church. The setting however is picture-perfect, and just a short distance away is the ivy-covered ruin of 14th century Candleston Castle. This ancient fortified house sits in woodland on the edge of the huge expanse of dunes and beach that makes up the beautiful Merthyr Mawr Warren National Nature Reserve.
Close by is another ruin, Ogmore Castle. This impressive fortress dates from the 12th century and is set alongside the River Ewenny with a charming set of stepping stones across the water.
