Porthcawl is a traditional British seaside resort on the fantastic southern 'Gold Coast' of Wales.
This lively town is known for its fun fair (Coney Beach), amusements, arcades and donkey rides.
There are several excellent beaches, the most popular of which are family-friendly Sandy Bay and the more peaceful Rest Bay, a large stretch of open sand providing great surfing conditions. To the east is the large holiday park of Trecco Bay, and just to the north the dunes of Kenfig.
Originally developed as a dock, Porthcawl became popular with tourists in the late Victorian age, and the grand wide promenade dates from this era. The Grand Pavilion was built in the 1930s and is still a hub of the town. There is also a great variety of cafes, fish and chips, restaurants and shops.
