South BuckinghamshireAylesbury

Aylesbury is a busy country town in Buckinghamshire, with narrow Tudor streets and 17th century houses, especially around St Mary's square, which include a County Hall built in 1720 .

The church, at the Square, has a 17th century clock-tower and 13th century spire.

Aylesbury was a stagecoach stop, and has the coaching inns used at the time, and these include the King's Head Hotel.

The county's claim to fame, at least recently, is that Roald Dahl lived in Buckinghamshire.

Quite a lot to see out and about for visitors to the area, and there is a tourist information centre in the town to help you.

Good for walks in the Chiltern Hills, A413 east, try at Wendover for nearby Coombe Hill. A4010 south takes you to Ellesborough, walks near there take you past Chequers, the Prime Minister's country home.
