| Peterborough,
a large regional centre which has had some major growth in recent
years, with full shopping facilities, a main line station and
lots of roundabouts!
The town is on the River Nene and it has grown around a medieval
monastery. The cathedral, 1118 , has painted 13th century
ceilings.
The old gateways still exist, as does the cathedral,
Knights gateway, Bishops Palace, Longthorpe Tower and west
gateway are all of medieval origin. The Guildhall dates from
1671.
A good place for a browse around if you are visiting this
area.
