Set amongst some fantastic scenery, Ammanford is a great base for exploring the upland countryside of the Cambrian Mountains, Brecon Beacons National Park and Black Mountain.
The Amman Valley has a long history. Tradition has it that King Arthur hunted wild boar here, and there are boar sculptures in the town which remember this today. In the 19th century the town became a centre for coal-mining and tin-plate industries. Ammanford today is a busy town with plenty of shops and amenities.
To the north is the amazing ruin of Carreg Cennen, set on a rocky outcrop with sheer cliff edges, making it one of the most spectacularly sited castles in Wales. Other attractions in the local area include Llyn Llech Owain Country Park with its beautiful lake, and the National Botanic Garden towards Carmarthen.
