Llandeilo tourist information
Picturesque Llandeilo is a delightful town in the centre of Carmarthenshire with some fine old buildings and excellent shopping opportunities.
The streets are lined with houses painted in attractive pastel colours, and this busy market town has a wide variety of pubs, restaurants and individual shops such as designer fashions, crafts and gifts, boutique interiors and delicious local produce - making Llandeilo the perfect place for strolling around.
Set on a crossing of the river Towy (or Tywi), the town grew up around the church of the 6th century Saint Teilo, from which it took its name. The massive stone bridge is a local landmark. Near the town is the ruin of massive Dinefwr Castle, now part of the National Trust Estate also which contains the fantastic 19h century Gothic mansion of Newton House.
Llandeilo is well-placed for the unspoilt upland scenery of the Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons National Park, perfect for walking and outdoor activities. Just to the east is Carreg Cennen, one of the loveliest ruined castles in Wales.
