Llanelli tourist information guide

Llanelli is the largest town in Carmarthenshire, set on the coast adjacent to the Loughor Estuary close to the city of Swansea.

The town had a long industrial history, becoming a major centre for coalmining and the production of steel and tinplate. These heavy industries have now disappeared, and the landscape they left behind has been transformed in recent years with the creation of some fantastic green spaces, parks and leisure facilities.

One of the best is the Millennium Coastal Park, with a fantastic coastal path and discovery centre with plenty to see and do. Sandy Water Park is a peaceful parkland created from an old ironworks site, and more redevelopment is planned along the waterside and docks. Also in Llanelli is the fantastic National Wetland Centre Wales with its network of lakes and pools. Just along the coast is beautiful Pembrey Country Park with the famous golden sands of Cefn Sidan beach.

Other interesting attractions in the town include the 18th century Llanelly House, due to become a community heritage centre, and Parc Howard Museum and Art Gallery, set in a fine 19th century mansion in a lovely country estate.
