| 10 miles south-west of Stroud, off A38 Berkeley is Norman, remodelled in the 14th Century. The Berkeley family have lived here since the 12th century. Famous as Edward II was imprisoned here in 1327 by his wife, Queen Isabella. In the Civil War it was attacked by Parliamentary troops who captured the castle. Most of the castle remains unchanged to this day. more information |
