Dunster
Dominating the small town,13th century, facade of the inner castle is largely
Elizabethan. In the Civil War it fell to the Parliamentarians and unfulfilled orders were
sent to have the castle demolished. After a fine the original owners were allowed to

Nunney Castle |
3
miles south-west of Frome, off A361 Built in 1373, influenced by the French
style. In 1645 the Parliamentarians breached the north wall above its entrance. In
1910 this wall collapsed but the moat was cleared. more
