 | At Framlington 18 miles north-east of Ipswich, on B119 off the A12 The ruins date from the 12th Century,after Roger Bigod, Earl of Norfolk, restored damage and added to it after Henry III ordered its destruction 1177. It became the seat of the Mowbray family and later the Howards, dukes of Norfolk. In 1636 it was given to Pembroke College, Cambridge and the great hall and other buildings were gradually pulled down, the poor-house lasted for 200 years after which it was used as a court. more information |
