 | St Nicholas Street, Newcastle upon Tyne A wooden castle here was replaced with a stone building in the 12th century. One of the most important medieval castles in northern England. Much of the castle has been destroyed , the battlements have been restored and are reached by spiral staircases. The whole site has been divided and is crossed by the railway. more information |
