Kenilworth Castle |
At
Kenilworth, 5 miles south west of Coventry, on A452 Built,12th century, Henry II
appropriated it and improved the defences, Henry III gave it to his sister Eleanor
and her husband Simon de Montfort. In the 14th century John of Gaunt made the castle into
a splendid residence. Over time the castle has been reduced to a vast ruin.

Warwick Castle |
At
Warwick, 3 miles from Leamington Spa, off M40 Overlooking the River Avon, little
remains of the Norman keep. Passed to the Beauchamp family in the 14th century and on to
Richard Neville, James I passed it in 1604 to Sir Fulke Greville. In the Civil War the
castle was besieged, and in the 17th and 18th centuries the Greville family
transformed it into a country house, it still houses a collection of paintings and
artifacts. In 1978 the castle was bought by the owners of Madame Tussaud's. more
