5 miles North-East of the Menai Bridge, off A545 Edward I instructed James of St. George to this castle on to strengthen his defence of the Menai Strait. Started in 1295 20 years later an outer bailey was added.  Never completely finished, there were few events of any significance in its history It was held by the Royalists in the Civil War until 1646 when the news of a Royalist defeat nearby persuaded it to surrender. more information
