The ancient kingdom of Ceredigion is a particularly peaceful and scenic region, known for its beautiful and rugged coastline of cliffs and hidden sandy beaches.
Some of the best beaches can be found along Cardigan Bay, near villages such as at Borth, Aberporth and Llangrannog. The coast is dotted with picturesque fishing ports such as Aberaeron and New Quay, and is also popular for watersports, boat trips and wildlife watching. Cardigan Bay is home to seals, porpoises and its famous Bottlenose Dolphins - one of only two resident groups in the UK.
Ceredigion is also a largely remote and unspoilt corner of Wales, with small rural communities and many native Welsh language speakers. To the east rise the Cambrian Mountains, a wild landscape of moorland and wide open spaces. The outstanding natural beauty of the area makes it popular for walking, climbing and other outdoor pursuits.
