Lampeter is a handsome rural market town, and home to the oldest and smallest University in Wales.
An attractive town with a traditional feel, there are plenty of eating places, pubs and shops to potter around. The town also is proud of its agricultural heritage and links with the Drovers - who gathered in Lampeter in the 18th century with their herds of livestock before driving them on to market on foot in England. There is a local museum in the town library which explains this rich history.
The University of Wales Trinity Saint David began life in 1822 as St Davids College, and was the first University in Wales - and the next to be founded in the UK after Oxford and Cambridge. The college is also credited for bringing Rugby football to Wales - now effectively the national game. The grounds are open to the public and the college also hosts regular events.
The Lampeter Food Festival is held annually in the beautiful grounds of the University, and attracts producers and consumers of fine Welsh produce from far and wide.
