Alva is one of a line of 'Hillfoot' villages that nestle under the Ochil hills and enjoy their spectacular scenery as a backdrop to daily life.
The steep sided Alva gorge once provided water power to fuel the booming textile industry that grew up around Alva burn. The industry has gone but the village still retains the cottages and mill buildings which preserve this link with the past.
The glen is now a peaceful place, perfect for enjoying views of the beautiful countryside and the many rushing waterfalls. In the 1930s-50s the glen was popular as a pleasure garden and for illuminated evening dances. The Alva Glen Heritage Trust have recently revived this tradition and run regular illuminated events.
