Clackmannanshire County Tourist Information

Welcome to Clackmannanshire ...
Lying between the Firth of Forth and the Ochil hills, Clackmannanshire is a small region in the heart of Scotland nicknamed the 'wee county' for its small size.

Locals would say that small is beautiful, with its rolling hills, beautiful glens, steep gorges, and romantic ruined castles. Clackmannanshire is somewhat off the beaten tourist path, but it is well worth discovering for its lovely scenery and historic buildings.

The main town is Alloa, set with Clackmannan in the lowland countryside near the River Forth, while to the North are the 'Hillfoot' villages of Menstrie, Alva, Tillicoultry and Dollar nestling beneath the beautiful Ochil range. The tallest of these hills is the rugged Ben Cleuch, which at 721m offers spectacular views.

The Clackmannanshire area is also known for its large number of medieval tower houses, imposing stone castles dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. The jewel in the crown however is the spectacular ruin of Castle Campbell, in a beautiful setting in Dollar Glen.
