The lovely stone-built village of Betws-y-Coed nestles in outstanding scenery of wooded hills, rivers and waterfalls.
Set deep within the Snowdownia National Park, it has been a very popular visitor destination since Victorian times when the arrival of the railway opened up this mountainous area to tourists. Most of the attractive old buildings in Betws-y-Coed date from the 19th century, and the railway station is now home to the Conwy Valley Railway Museum, with great miniature engines and cafe in a real (luckily stationary) buffet car
Amongst the beautiful natural attractions are the clear mountain rivers which rush through rocky valleys and under picturesque bridges. Particularly notable are the amazing cascades of Conwy Falls, Swallow Falls and the steep gorge of the Fairy Glen. This area is a magnet for those looking for the great outdoors, and sports such as Gorge Scrambling, caving, mountain biking and high ropes adventures.
