Central CornwallFalmouth

Falmouth, port and resort, with a large harbour.

Very busy in 17th & 18th century with mail boats, the mail packet service, and the local paper,  Falmouth Packet, brought the first news of the Battle of Trafalgar.

There is a local fishing fleet and boat yards, the large dry dock handles tankers and other vessels.

Shark fishing is popular with day trips for the visitors. Boat trips available up the river.Yachting centre.

Good beaches are to be found under the cliff tops, and the castle tower gives good views. The whole town was established by the Killigrew family, who were pirates and smugglers.

Historic buildings include the castle, customs house and Grove Hill House.
