Tintagel
|
|
| Tintagel,
is perhaps King Arthur's home town, for high on the cliffs is the
famous ruined castle.
Tourist shops abound and the town is a bit tacky with
the never ending stream of coaches visiting in the summer.
The town, one main street, does have THE BEST Cornish
pasty shop we've found, all they sell is pasties,
vegie pasties and normal. Big, a bit expensive, but great,
buy one to take home. ON the left as you walk towards
the castle.
The post office is interesting as it was a small
manor house dating from the 14th century.
The castle is around a small cove, running over a couple
of hill tops. Steep steps and walkways give excellent views.
Is it the castle of legend? probably it was the castle
of Reginald Earl of Cornwall in the 12th Century, rather than
the birthplace of King Arthur.
