Cumbria Tourist Information Guide

Cumbria - from the Lake District to the seaHome of the famous Lake District, one of the most popular National Park areas in Britain, visited by thousands of tourists every year, both from the UK and overseas.

Lots of tourist attractions here to visit whilst on holiday, whether you are on a walking holiday or not. For details of what to see when out sightseeing choose one of our town guides or our articles on the Lakes.

Cumbria is made up of 6 districts: Allerdale, Barrow-in-Furness, Carlisle, Copeland, Eden and South Lakeland. The city of Carlisle is the administrative centre of the Cumbria.

To the north Hadrians Wall runs east into Northumbria and this is a popular route to follow.

Cumbria is especially famous as the home of Beatrix Potter and Lake District has been the inspiration for generations of poets, the most famous of which is Wordsworth.
