CumbriaWindermere

Windermere is on the on the hillside, a short distance from the shores of Lake Windermere, a popular attraction for tourists in the Lake Disrict, and Bowness-on-Windermere .

Once a village called Birthwaite, the arrival of the railway 1847 meant that the railway company named the village after the lake.

Windermere was developed by wealthy industrialists who could live in the Lake District and travel to work by rail. As the area around the station was developed it merged with Bowness.

Lakeside Pier, beside the station, houses the Aquarium of the Lakes. This attraction has over 30 displays illustrating the creatures living in and alongside the freshwater lake.
