Heanor, a town based originally on coal-mining, now all the pits are closed.

The buildings reflect its growth in the 19th century, the church, St Lawrence was rebuilt then although based on an older church, and the canal basin is now used for trips on restored boats.

There is a shopping centre and leisure centre in the town.
