Wirksworth DerbyshireWirksworth

Wirksworth, a small town built on the lead mining boom of the 17th century and 18th century, an industry started by the Romans in this area. More recently the main industry was limestone, helped by the establishment of the railway line.

With the industry came the problems and in the 1970's the centre was made a restoration project, turning the town into a delightful place to visit with narrow streets, market place and old inns.

Buildings especially to note are the old Moot Hall, Babingdon House, and 13th century based St Marys.
