South DevonBrixham

Brixham DevonBrixham, part of Torbay, is a family resort with a large and active fishing port. There is a fish auction house on the quayside.

Brixham's main claim to fame is that William Of Orange landed here in 1688, an event marked by his statue. His first English Parliament was formed by him on his way to London. Brixham has a Napoleonic fort at Berry Head which is a nice walk, the Berry Head Hotel gives excellent views over the whole bay. Spectacular on a summers night with views to the lights of Torquay and Paignton.

Overlooking Torbay, Brixham is popular with painters and holidaymakers. There are several holiday villages.

There are a few beaches, but you can walk all the way around the coast to find a cove to suit you. Best beach at Broadsands, take the main road to Paignton and turn right after Churston Common, a mile after passing Churston village.

Golf course at Churston, and you can join the Torbay Steam railway there to visit Paignton or Kingswear.

Shopping area is small, really geared to the typical holidaymaker. Torquay is Torbays major shopping area. Plenty of pubs...take your pick, not the place to have a pub crawl and survive! Good fish restaurants.
