What's New

North DevonClovelly

Picturesque Clovelly is THE place to visit, even if you just go once. The whole village is on a steep, and we mean very steep, hill  with cobbled streets sweeping down to the harbour. Owned by the Clovelly Estate Trust there is an entrance fee to this working village.

Use the car park as no cars are allowed in the village, and walk through the Visitor Centre, and pay !, before strolling through the unique village to the harbour and the Red Lion public house for lunch. Watch the cobbles if they are wet.

Walking back up can be a problem !, so take the provided LandRover service or use the traditional donkeys who don't seen to mind the hill too much. Even the postman uses a sledge for his letters on the smooth cobbles.

Souvenirs and postcards can be purchased at the Visitor Centre.

The village gets very very busy in summer with lots of coach parties, as we say it's the place to visit!.

Just inland is an Iron Age fort, said to be home to a family of cannibals.

There was a drive, the Hobby Drive, along a private road following the cliffs, this is presently CLOSED.
