Haytor
|
|
| Haytor,
probably one of the most visited rock tors on Dartmoor,
they are close to the road and can be climbed to the top
for good views. So popular that the paths around the tor have
been very eroded.
Carpark is popular in summer, you can always get an
ice cream!
Around the rear of the tor you can still see signs of an
old railway used to haul quarried stone, no trains though
these railways used horses, which is where the Dartmoor ponies
came from.
The quarry can still be seen if you walk past the tor away
from the road, good views down to Widecombe. Also walk to
Hound Tor, with sighs of an old settlement nearby.
