Totnes
|
|
| Totnes,
is an interesting town built on a hill rising up from the
River Dart. The river side has been restored preserving the
old warehouses on the wharf, boat trips to and from Dartmouth
are popular, and good value.
An historic town, yet has been described as the "alternative
life style centre of the South West". Full of contrast,
old and new, and a real bustle about the town.
Ruined Roman castle and Elizabethan and Georgian houses add
to the town. The town museum is in the Guildhall.
Compact if steep shopping centre with tearooms for that well
earned rest, or try one of the many pubs.
You must try the South Devon Railway, steam trains run to
Buckfastleigh, the trip takes about
an hour, well worth a go!. Also stops at Staverton.
