Poole

Poole, now
just about joined with Bournemouth,
is a working port town, with ferry services to Europe, and
ship yards. The Sunseeker luxury boats are made here and can
be seen in the harbour, (for that plug TourUK staff hope to
receive a free one, or at least a day trip!).
Poole harbour is the
second largest natural harbour in the world with over 100
miles of coastline.
The town of Poole
was given county status by Elizabeth 1st, which it kept until
the 19th century. There is an 18th century Guildhall and medieval
merchants house, both museums.
Poole is centered
around the harbours and it is here that its history is. The
shopping area has most major shops, and out of town there
is a surprising amount of industry.
You can take ferries around Poole harbour and to the National
Trust island of Brownsea, or take the small ferry from Sandbanks
across to Studland Bay near Swanage.
Tourist Information Centre by the harbour.
