Moffat is a small town on the main road from England, which found prosperity in the 18th and 19th centuries as a fashionable spa town.
The bath house is now the town hall, and while visitors no longer take the waters of the mineral springs the town retains a peaceful and genteel atmosphere, and many fine buildings. The town also houses a museum with exhibitions on local history
A notable feature of Moffat is the statue of a ram in the marketplace, marking its connections with the wool trade. Livestock are also associated with another local landmark, the Devil's Beef Tub, a dramatic sheer hollow in the hillside said to have been used by border rievers to hide stolen cattle.
It is also an ideal base from which to explore Southern Scotland and its beautiful scenery. The Southern Upland Way passes to the north of the town and is the perfect route to discover this beautiful region, from the East to the West coasts.
