The small village of Mauchline has been made famous by its links with the iconic Scottish poet Robert Burns, who wrote many of his finest works when he lived here between 1784 and 1788.
The village is dominated by a large reminder of this famous resident in the red sandstone Burns National Memorial Tower, and also houses the Burns House Museum in the cottage where he once lived. This displays original manuscripts, rare editions and fascinating objects from Burns' life.
Other landmarks known to lovers of Burns' poems include the former Sma' Inn, now Nance Tinnock's, and Poosie Nancy's Inn. The church graveyard is the resting place of some of Burn's contemporaries who inspired his poetry.
