Milngavie is a pleasant suburb of Glasgow, which also marks the start of the West Highland Way, the famous long-distance footpath which takes walkers out of the residential areas to the wild countryside beyond.
The footpath is 96 miles long, and passes through some of Scotland's most scenic areas, such as the shores of Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor, past Glencoe, Loch Leven and Glen Nevis, to its final destination at Fort William.
Just north of Milngavie is Mugdock Country Park, a outdoor family attraction with the remains of two castles. Also in the area is the Loch Ardinning Nature Reserve set in beautiful countryside.
