Barrhead is the largest town in East Renfrewshire, much developed in the 1960s and 70s but now being revamped with a £120 million regeneration programme to bring it up to date.
The town has a long history, and prospered in the industrial revolution thanks to its cotton mills and the weaving trade. Visitors can walk the Barrhead Heritage Trail to discover more about its past, including the 9th century Arthurlie Cros and the imposing Municipal Chambers, designed in the Scottish Baronial style.
The main attraction of this area is its attractive surrounding open spaces, including the Dams to Darnley country park, and the scenic Fereneze Braes, which is also home to the Fereneze Golf Club, set in moorland with an 18th century clubhouse and some spectacular views over the Clyde valley.
