Cottingham located midway between the city of Kingston upon Hull and Beverley, is reputed to be the largest village in England.
This ancient settlement contains artifacts confirming that area was inhabited by 'Beaker People' in the late-Bronze Age.
In 1200 the village was granted a royal licence by King John to hold a market and fair.
The famous poet, Philip Larkin, Head Librarian at the University of Hull for 30 years until his death in 1985, is buried in the Victorian municipal cemetery in Cottingham
