The historic market town of Pocklington (locally referred to as 'Pock') stands at the foot of the Yorkshire Wolds.
The ancient settlement is thought to date back to the Bronze Age. In the Middle Ages Pocklington, situated on the main road to York, prospered as a trading centre for wool.
Today Pocklington is considered to be a commuter town for York, Hull and Leeds.
The town has a mixture of picturesque old houses and modern buildings and its skyline is dominated by the 15th century tower of All Saints' Church (known as the Cathedral of the Wolds).
A popular local attraction is the Pocklington Arts Centre, established in 2000 in the former Ritz cinema. The centre offers a broad-based programme of visual and performing arts for the rural area.
The stunning Burnby Hall Gardens, located in the centre of the town, were given in trust to the people of Pocklington in 1962 on the death of Major Percy Stewart.
Other nearby attractions include Allerthorpe Lakeland Park watersports centre, Millington Wood (a site of Special Scientific Interest) and Pocklington canal head, noted for its wildlife.
York , its just down the road so it would be a shame to miss it, spend a day at Market Weighton or go onto Beverley to see the Minster
