Braintree, in the middle of Essex and the countryside, population 32,000.

The town's prosperity is based on the woolen industry, Flemish immigrants brought their skills here in the 16th century. Samuel Courtauld opened his silk factory in the town in the 19th century.

Mainly pedestrianised town centre and a factory outlet centre on the town's outskirts.
