EssexChipping Ongar

Chipping Ongar, a small town out in the countryside, close to both the M11 and M25, giving easy access to London and Cambridge.

The town is a market town given its charter in the 12th century. The town and the villages around it have retained their charm, the weekly market is still held in the town on Wednesday's. The High Street have a variety of shops and the buildings are of some interest.

The remains of a 12th century castle, fortified by the Normans can be seen.

Most of the popular attractions lie in the surrounding countryside.

North Weald Airfield Museum and Memorial, Ad Astra House, Hurricane Way, North Weald, Bassett, CM16 6AA Off B181 Epping to Ongar road, museum tells the story of this still active airfield, memorial to those who died, both in the air and on the ground. Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker, Crown Building, Kelvedon Hall Lane, Kelvedon Hatch, Brentwood, CM14 5TZ, off A128. Hidden away beneath a bungalow, a Cold War hideaway. In 10 feet of reinforced concrete find 3 storeys hidden 100 feet underground with command centre, sleeping quarters, kitchens, even a BBC radio station.
