Clacton-on-the-Sea, one of Essex's and England's best known resorts, the playground of London. More than just spacious sandy beaches, with smaller villages, resorts and river creeks just on the doorstep.
Historically, it grew from developments since 1864, taking its name from Great Clacton, a village nearby. The resort prospered with the introduction of the railway in 1882 and became famous in the 60's with the 'Mods' and 'Rockers' fights.
Despite the closure of the large Butlins holiday camp, the resort is still very popular with entertainments, attractions and improved accommodation. A real family resort.
