SouthendSouthend

Southend, on of the famous Essex resorts, London's playground due to it's location close to London, and often visited for the day or the weekend.

In the last few years the town has being undergoing a transformation, with a redevelopment and enhancement scheme, cleaner beaches with Blue Flag status, and development of attractions and entertainment facilities. Shopping has been improved as well with the High Street enhancement scheme underway. For smaller shops try the Westcliff area.

Three theatres, The Cliffs Pavilion ( Tel: 01702 351135) and the New Empire Theatre ( 01702 353577 ) for top performers and shows, and the Palace Theatre (Tel: 01702 351135) for plays. These coupled with clubs, bars, restaurants, multi-screen cinema, and three casino's, means you are spoilt for choice for an evening out!

Take a walk in the gardens, including the Clifftop gardens, along the seafront. For the more active there is a leisure centre, golf courses, and sailing.

Don't miss the famous pier, the longest in the world, built in 1889, which has been restored to its former glory.

Some quieter places east and west of the main town, such as Leigh, ideal for a stroll with a cobbled High Street, art galleries and Heritage Centre.
